2008 Railroad Days Person of the Year
Herbert Scrivener of Durand has been selected Railroad Person of the Year.
Railroad Person of the Year is sponsored by Durand Union Station Inc.
in conjunction with the Railroad Days festival.
Herb began his careen as a fireman with Grand Trunk Western in 1946.
He worked in this position until being promoted to the engineer at the
age of 25. He worked the 34 years primarily as an engineer, retiring in 1986.
Herb always was willing to pitch in wherever and whenever he was needed,
often working double shifts to better provide for his family.
Herb is very much a family man. He and his wife of 34 years, Margaret,
enjoy their son, daughter, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Herb and Margaret are spending the winter in Florida, and will return to
Michigan April 16. Herb was nominated for the title by his son, Terry,
and his daughter, Connie, who feel he possesses all the right qualities
for the honor of Railroad Person of the Year.
